School Updates

Website Update: 29/05/20

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope you and your families are well and continuing to stay safe.

Following the recent government announcement regarding a phased return to school for some students, we have been working closely with Durham County Council to establish what is right for our school. The council is supporting all schools in the county, to establish a pattern and timeframe that works for them. They have provided a risk assessment, which is designed to put the health and safety of children first and ensure each school mitigates, to the best of their ability, risks associated with a phased return. With support from the council’s team of dedicated staff, we have decided on an approach which best suits the needs of children and families at Windlestone School.

From w/c 14/06/20, we have been advised to look at the reintegration of Year 10 students in addition to those students who we currently have on site due to them requiring special arrangements. Parents/Carers with children in Year 10 will receive further information regarding this during the welfare calls to them during w/c 01/06/20. There will be an opportunity for parents/carers to ask any questions and discuss any concerns directly with me which again you will receive more information about during your welfare call.

In the meantime, we are continuing to provide further work to students, the new area of the website set up called ‘Online Learning’ is working very well. Within this area, students can access each subject they are studying and then work relevant to their year group. Students can then download work, complete it and we ask that parents/carers email any completed work to the school email address windlestone.school@durhamlearning.net by Friday of each week. We will then arrange for teachers to receive any completed work for assessment. Thank you to those students who have already returned work to us, it is clear that good time and effort has been given to this and the standard of work is excellent.

Please note, that we will continue to make regular contact with you via telephone and in extreme circumstances we can be in a position to provide provision to individual students. To make direct contact with the school, please either use the main school telephone number 01388 720 337 or the school email address above.

We are continuing to support those parents/carers whose children are eligible for Free School Meals and those eligible will receive their next shopping voucher either by email or text message very soon. If you have any further questions or queries regarding the vouchers, please speak to staff during our welfare calls to you.

Take care of yourself and each other.

Kind Regards,

Tim Bennett
